Interview with Dr. Phil Loring about Food Security

In this episode, we featured Dr. Phil Loring, Arrell Chair in Food, Policy and Society at the University of Guelph. He works in coastal communities around the world to understand the challenges that they face, specifically regarding food security, livelihoods, conflict over resources, and climate change, which was the topic of our discussion. In our interview, we talked about his research in Alaska and lessons he took away, sustainability in our fisheries, food security for communities around the world, the impact of misinformation, steps moving forward, and more.

Phil Loring is a human ecologist whose research focuses on food security, fisheries, and community sustainability. He earned his master's and PhD in the Resilience and Adaptation Program and Center for Cross-Cultural Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He is currently the Arrell Chair in Food, Policy and Society at the University of Guelph. Phil works in coastal communities around the world to understand the challenges that they face, specifically regarding food security, livelihoods, conflict over resources, and climate change. His work is collaborative and transdisciplinary, in that he brings the methods and theories of both social and natural sciences together with the arts and new media to help communities answer questions, solve problems, and tell stories that matter to them.
